26 years ago, on this day, Szilárd Varga joined Audi Hungaria. Since then, he has gained experience across numerous areas and positions in vehicle production and has witnessed many changes firsthand. Now he shares his personal perspective on the past decades and the moments that have shaped his career.
Since August 1, 2018, I have been working in the Analysis Center/Pilothalle within the pre-series vehicle assembly team as a technician.
Could you briefly describe your role in this field? My main responsibility is bodywork rework on vehicles in pre-series production. This includes correcting all possible body-related issues, from adjusting gaps and alignments to repairing dents and threads, and even replacing components when necessary. In addition, I am involved in bolting technology and in coordinating the delivery of vehicles.
Stability. After 26 years with the company, I can say that those who work with commitment and perform well can count on long-term financial and job security.
On April 17, 2000, at just 19 years old - still almost a “kid” - I joined the company. You could say I came almost straight from school, although I had taken a short detour beforehand due to compulsory military service. I stepped into a completely new world: standing next to the production line with a backpack, waiting for guidance from my team leader at the time. Everything around me was unfamiliar, yet exciting—this was the starting point of a professional journey that I have been proudly following ever since.
What has been the most memorable moment during your time here?Over more than two and a half decades, my work has been accompanied by countless experiences and changes, and I have had the opportunity to meet many outstanding people. One particularly memorable moment was when a new chapter began in the company’s history with the construction of a modern vehicle plant covering the full depth of production. From the very beginning of this process through to the start of production, I was personally involved every step of the way.
At the Győr plant—and especially in my current area—a defining professional opportunity was being the first in Győr to take part in a unique project. Within this project, I was responsible for camouflaging new prototype and pre-series vehicles—the CUPRA Terramar and the new Audi Q3—using special camouflage foil, ensuring their confidentiality right up to market launch and the start of series production.
I acquired the necessary expertise in Ingolstadt and then applied this knowledge in practice at the Győr plant. Previously, these tasks were carried out exclusively in Ingolstadt, so implementing the process locally marked a new chapter in the plant’s history. The completed vehicles were sent from here for testing and development purposes.
In total, more than 300 vehicles of the new models were produced in this form. Colleagues from several different departments were involved in the work, all in close and effective cooperation.
Why did you choose Audi Hungaria, and why would you recommend it to others? As a career starter, I was able to work in my trained profession right away. I had the opportunity to learn and develop in modern, clean working conditions. Stability and predictability are important to me, and they contribute significantly to my ability to perform my daily tasks consistently and reliably.
Over the past 26 years, I have been able to progress steadily in my professional career—from a position as an assembly line worker, through rework and team coordination roles, to my current position as a technician. This journey was made possible by continuous learning, persistent effort, and the opportunities available within the company.
