In January 2012, Audi Hungaria Technical Development expanded its development activities to include vehicle development, where nearly 100 employees are working on the virtual development of system and general vehicle properties using numerical simulations. Through close cooperation with AUDI AG, the vehicle and powertrain factory in Győr, and the powertrain development department, development projects are supported efficiently, quickly and to the highest standards from the concept phase to the start of series production. The focus of the area is on near-production vehicle development: supporting the production ramp-up of new models, performing aggregate and vehicle tests simulating customer use, as well as numerical vehicle simulations and various special analyses to contribute to the optimal production of new vehicles.
The emphasis is on issues related to strength analysis, acoustics, thermal management and energy management. In addition, powertrain and vehicle testing in the vehicle development testing laboratory is also an important part of the Győr competence portfolio. We use the latest testing facilities, such as the Volkswagen Group's unique rotor testing centrifuge for the strength analysis of electronic machinery or a roller test bench. On the road simulated by the test bench, vehicles can be accelerated up to 280 km/h.
Our experimental and simulation engineers work on the tasks of the following key functions:
- Thermal and energy management
- Strength analysis and service life tests
- Bonding technology simulations
- Vehicle durability tests
- Test laboratory
- Vehicle acoustics simulations
- Charge change simulations
- Experimental acoustics
- Ramp-up support
- Homologation
- Product testing
A high level of creativity is essential for our well-trained mechanical and vehicle engineers to perform the tasks. Our employees use state-of-the-art equipment and technologies, such as powerful computer systems for numerical simulations and test benches for analytical work. All development activities are based on close cooperation with product management as a strategic partner and on the technical compliance of Audi AG.

Audi Hungaria’s Drive System Development Center was opened in 2001, where our employees work with state-of-the-art tools and software. The Győr-based site is in a particularly fortunate position, as development and manufacturing activities are linked from the very beginning of development, made possible by their physical proximity. The specialty area works closely with the development department in Germany, particularly on design and powertrain experiments, and the most important orders come from Ingolstadt. The Group has commissioned several successful AUDI base powertrains to be adapted for newer vehicles with higher performance, special purposes or special fuels.
There are currently 24 pieces of powertrain testing equipment in the area of the Győr Drive System Development: 20 testing equipment for internal combustion engines, 4 for electric drives, including equipment for testing specific acoustic, thermodynamic and climatic conditions. In addition, the Drive System Development Center is equipped with a state-of-the-art workshop where the experts of Audi Hungaria can test the full range of powertrains—from electric to twelve-cylinder internal combustion power units—on the test benches. Our engineers carry out a wide range of experiments in the field of acoustics, friction and simulations, with an increasing focus on electricity. Electromobility is not only shaping our production, but is also playing an increasingly important role in our development activities. Our Technical Development is AUDI AG’s third-largest development hub and also the center of competence for design, simulation and acoustic and strength analysis testing.
Traditional design activities in the field are complemented by state-of-the-art methods such as acoustic testing, friction analysis and simulation. The main tasks of our engineers are the development and optimization of electric drives for the latest hybrid and electric vehicles.
Our Technical Development is constantly expanding, our responsibilities are growing, and our development engineers in Győr are now far from just supporting production development activities: they are working on specific vehicle powertrains. For example, the gas engine manufactured in Hungary was developed under the leadership of Audi Hungaria, and certain elements of the Győr e‑motor design also praise the expertise of Hungarian engineers. But in addition to this, we are also continuously building up competences and services that go beyond the boundaries of Audi Hungaria.
Our areas of development can best be described with the words professionalism, passion and love for our profession. Wherever you go in development (simulation, design, test bench areas), you'll find highly motivated, dynamic engineers with an innovative mindset.
