Audi Hungaria has launched series production of the new MEBeco electric drive

Győr, 18 June 2026 – Audi Hungaria officially began series production of the new MEBeco electric drive today – this is an important milestone for the company and a key step in the electromobility strategy of the production network of the Audi and the Volkswagen Groups. The new drive forms the basis for a new generation of compact electric vehicles and will power a number of high-volume electric models from the Volkswagen Group in the future, starting with the CUPRA Raval.

Audi Hungaria has been a key member of the Audi and the Volkswagen Groups for more than three decades. During this period, more than 13 billion euros were invested in Győr. Today, the company is not only a hub for drive and vehicle manufacturing, but also a key center for technical development, expertise-based services, training, and industrial innovation.

“I am convinced that the future is electric. The launch of series production of the new electric drive is an important step on the Volkswagen Group’s journey towards electromobility,” said Gerd Walker, Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG responsible for Production and Logistics and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Audi Hungaria. “In Győr, I experience the strength of ‘Made in Europe’: flexible production, the courage to innovate, and a team with an exceptionally high level of professional expertise, working with passion and precision on the mobility of the future.”

Audi Hungaria, MEBeco Start of Production

Audi Hungaria, Hungary’s leading automotive manufacturer, has more than eight years of experience in the production of electric drives. The MEBeco, the motor for the MEB+ Modular Electric Drive System, represents a significant step forward in expanding the company’s in-house manufacturing capabilities. For the first time in Győr, not only are complete drive units being manufactured, but also key components such as the plate pack, the rotor, and the power electronics—along with the software and integrated testing. This further strengthens the company’s industrial competence and its role within the Volkswagen Group’s international manufacturing network.

“With the launch of series production of the MEBeco, Audi Hungaria has reached a new milestone in the transformation of its engine plant and is now producing the third generation of electric motors in Győr.” This further strengthens our high level of manufacturing expertise and our central role as a powertrain supplier for several brands within the Volkswagen Group,” said Michael Breme, Chairman of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria.

Audi Hungaria, MEBeco Start of Production

Audi Hungaria is an integral part of the Volkswagen Group’s European manufacturing and development network and works in close collaboration with sites such as Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm, and Wolfsburg.

The construction of the manufacturing infrastructure began in 2024, which included the gradual installation of equipment, machine acceptance procedures, audits, and trial runs.

Today, modern manufacturing is based on state-of-the-art equipment, automated processes, and advanced quality assurance, all of which are consistently focused on quality, efficiency, and scalability. MEBeco thus represents not only a new product, but also a new industrial implementation capability.

The new manufacturing depth represents a technological leap forward in drive manufacturing. Large-scale equipment—such as the 110-ton press, which was delivered by more than eleven trucks—and fully automated, high-precision processes ensure maximum efficiency and quality. The new press shop will process approximately 100 tons of raw materials per day.

A comprehensive training program has been implemented for the production of MEBeco. The training courses covered all relevant technologies: stator and rotor manufacturing, pressing technologies, high-voltage competencies, power electronics, as well as modern automation and testing technologies. The program was implemented by Audi Hungaria’s in-house training center, the Audi Academy, in collaboration with technology partners and universities.

“The smooth launch of series production of the MEBeco is the result of our high level of professional expertise and our team’s dedicated work. Thanks to comprehensive and targeted training initiatives, we are now able to safely and efficiently manufacture products using the new, innovative technologies and a large manufacturing depth. This enables us to provide our customers with an MEBeco electric drive that delivers outstanding technological performance and the highest standards of quality: Performance meets efficiency,” said Peter Will, Member of the Board of Management of Audi Hungaria, responsible for Powertrain Production.

Through MEBeco, Audi Hungaria is providing an efficient and technologically advanced powertrain for the next generation of the Volkswagen Group’s compact electric models.
