In 1992, AUDI AG examined 180 potential sites for the production of a new engine generation. Finally, they decided in favour of Győr. AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft was formed in 1993, as a 100% subsidiary of AUDI AG, with an equity capital of 1 million euro.

Almost the entire engine range of the Audi concern is produced by AUDI HUNGARIA MOTOR Kft. Besides, it is the Hungarian Audi subsidiary that supplies the Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda brands with engines as well.

In May 1998, Audi Hungaria opened a new chapter in the Hungarian automotive history. This is when the assembly of Audi TT Coupé sports cars was started in Győr, and that of TT Roadsters in July 1999.

In June 2006, the serial production of the Audi TT Coupé, and, in November, that of the second generation of the Roadster was started in Győr.

In November 2007, another new chapter was opened in the success story of Audi Hungaria with the production of the Audi A3. Start of production of RS 3 Sportback started in 2011.

Alongside the existing engine plant and vehicle assembly line, a complete automotive production line is being created till 2013. The expansion of the Győr plant will provide a huge development boost for the Hungarian economy and labor market. As the biggest and most attractive employer in the Győr region, Audi will create 2,100 new jobs in the long term. Over 15,000 people throughout the region will benefit directly or indirectly from the operations of Audi Hungaria once the plant has been expanded.
